Fished for cats on the Dike in Fargo this weekend. Did alright with the largest at 7 lbs, lots of steady action at dusk. As always, they like the chum.

You guys are killing me. I've been dying to get to the river and start fishing again, but my weekends have been booked solid. I'll begin my adventure right after mom's day. I've only fished the Red for a year (came from Phoenix) and had nothing but fun. I had the privilage of meeting some great people, caught some monster cats, pike and walleye. I wish you all a safe fishing season.

Friday I had my first river adventure of 2004. Fished for about three hours with only one move. Landed six cats. Not bad for not exhibiting much effort.

I almost got pulled into the river at Drayton when I was a kid. I wish I knew what was on the end of my line. Makes a guy wonder what the biggest fish in the river is. Fishing there, from my experiences, is either really great or decent. Never went there without catching a cat so I guess I cant complain.

Drayton is approx. 50 miles north of Grand Forks on the interstate. It's a pretty small town. You will want to take the Drayton exit off of the interstate & head east...you will be on the north side of town. At the gas station you will want to take the hwy. & head north, out of town for a couple of miles. There is a road that goes east again that will take you to the boat ramp/dam. There is a sign there, but it come up fast so be looking for it. The dam there is smiliar to the one at the north landing at GF. I have had the most luck right below the dam, but lots of people also go down river & have good luck too. Catchabiggun!!!

I've heard fishing can be pretty good for cats up in Drayton. I've never been there and was just wondering how far North it is. Is it a large town? How do you get there from the highway? appreciate any help.

The suckers and carp are really biting this year. Mostly that is what we have been catching. There have been some walleyes and catfish but not to many.

Thanks fishing man for the info, I don't get a chance to go out much living on the base. Glad to hear they are starting to bite. I will definately keep an eye out for the green truck. I think there is plenty of room to fish isn't there? Again thanks for the info.

Let me know how you did fishing man. That has been the only place I have fished on the red, seemed pretty good. When do catfish normally bite the best? All day or just in the evening/night time. Thanks.

"NEW" Season is OH SO CLOSE!

The Red River is in the best shape for the spring opener than I've seen in a few years! This only spells one thing, "tons of cooperative kitties"! Currently the Red here in Lockport is still runing 7 to 8 feet above normal and there's still an over abundance of flow which is very favorable for attracting "BIG" hungry cats in from Lake Winnipeg in search of food! By the time the seasom offically gets underway on May 15th, the river will be in absolutely incredible shape, teaming with frenzy feeding cats!

I was just curious? Can anyone tell me whether or not Cabella's in East Grand Forks is carring the Frabil small mesh net? Frabil actually refer's the net as their "halibut", but realistically they could have easily have named it something like "WHISKER'S SUPREME" or something of that nature! In a nutshell, this small mesh is the by far the best landing net that I have ever personally fished with! The small mesh offers "TWO" very distinct advantages over the conventional large mesh net. First of all, the small mesh does not permit the fish too become entangled, this is a huge advantage, especially when the action is fast and furious! Secondly and equally as important, your lead sinker can by no means become entangled in the finer mesh! Any of you that has logged enough hours pusuing Ol' Whiskers can attest to just how frustrating it is wasting precious and productive fishing time untangling your lead from the mesh. The small mesh totally eliminates this problem and how important is that!

So if someone would be so kind as to research whether or not these nets are available in the G.F's area, I would very greatful for an update!

Danny,

It seems that you're out of luck. We went through the same thing and just get together once a year and pour about 500 of them. It is cheaper and it gets us by. The only other suggestion is to look on the internet. You will be spending a fortune but you will get your sinkers.

sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I just have a quick question, does anyone know where I can find some 2 ounce No-Roll sinkers? I used to go to Scheels but they don't have any more 2 ouncers. I've tried molding my own but it is a royal pain. Any help would be appreciated.
