North Ramp is no open. Went down Sat evening and shoveled the last 15 ft of mud off the ramp. I also placed sticks along the edge of the ramp. Just make sure that your truck stays on the ramp, its a little soft on the edges. Good Luck

Stu,
We were in the process of planning a similar event for this August. Due to some rules for permits we decided to cancel this year and wait until 2005 so we can show off the brand new boat landing that our organization is helping get built. I don't think we will get to the magnitude of Winnipeg right away but we have to start somewhere.
If anyone would like to help us plan for 2005 or would like some info on Fish Winnipeg to see what we are going to try to duplicate please feel free to send an .
thanks

Brad, Scott, I appreciate your generous comments, you are both way to kind. The truth of the matter is relatively straight foreword........"there are those of "US" who really do sincerely care and who really want to give something back", thankfully we are in a position to do so! I cannot begin to tell you how much this event means to myself and to "all" the other individuals who give their time and money to support this most worthy event! Enough thanks cannot be said on thier behalf. One really has to be present to fully appreciate the magnitude and scope of this event, it's absolutely incredible! Special "kudu's" must go out to the City of Winnipeg and also to the Provincial Fisheries Branch, for they are tireless in their efforts of ensuring this event is successful!
So U-All.......how long before we see a similiar event unfold in your neighborhood?

Brad: it was too bad the carp didn't go but at least your partner got the biggest fish for the media. I picked up the anchor, REAL NICE. I will get you the cash for it when U are up on the Wpg River.
Yes that Fish Wpg is a great event. I really missed it this year but had a several day guide and it was the last day. The water seems to be dropping rather quickly so if U stop doing the rain dance down south it is OK. I am out on the water in an hr. Take care UALL and see U on the Red

Agreed, Brad.
So often we think of fishing as being just for 'us' and just for fun...and this event in Winnipeg just goes to show you how much can be done with fishing.
Underserved children have a sweet spot in my heart. Their is nothing more deserving, in my eyes, than a child who has needs that are unfulfilled.
Heeps of praise on the City of Winnipeg for sponsoring such an event and cheers to all the corporate sponsors who gave money to help these needy children.
Oh yeah...and congrats to Stu and his team.
Stu is one class act, take note all you lurkers!

I would like to congratulate Stu on his Fish Winnipeg win. I would also like to thank him for being so gratious and taking the WDAZ team out for the media portion of the tournament. You showed us the utmost in professionalism and you showed why you are the premier catman in North America. It is very obvious that you are very respected when we moved and four boats moved with us.
Stu, it is also great that you are willing to take a day off to donate your time to the underprivelaged kids of the city. Everyone should thank Stu and all of the other guides and people who donate time to help put on this event.

Just a quick up-date on this year's Fish Winnipeg Challenge....... The crew from WDAZ and I ended up taking 3rd. Not what I had in mind but still a respectable result! The afternoon corporate event was a different story and it had a different ending as our team took 1st!!!
For those that don't know what this event is all about, please read on. This year marked the 7th anual "Fish Winnipeg Corporate/Media Challenge". The events sole purpose is to provide the opportunity for Winnipeg's "High Risk youth offenders" a chance to learn how to fish. Its an incredible program, with incredible results! Each year (thanks to the army of voluteers) more than "600" boys and girls ranging in age from 10 to 15 take part in this program. By the way these kids must prove they really want to participate, they have to show improvement in their grades at school as well as displaying other positive scocial skills. The kids spend the day on a disignated location on the Red where they are taught the basic's of angling. At the end of the day, they get to keep the rod and reel that had been provided for them! The programs sole intent is to give these young people a little encouragement in life! Teaching them how to fish is something that will no doubt help improve their social developement, this will remain with them for their entire lives. This is why I'm so adamant about supporting this worthy program!!!!!

The ramp should be open by this weekend. I noticed a few boats down there yesterday but I'm not sure how much mud was on the ramp. I'm hoping the water goes down enough to get on the north ramp this weekend. As for bait I would stick with fresh cut bait for larger fish and worms for catching eaters.

Rumor has it that the fish are still on the feed, but headed for spawning areas. Other people on this end of the river seeing the same thing? I'd imagine we've got another week or so to catch cats before it gets really tough. Then a week or 10 day break in the action followed by a flurry of action during the post spawn feed. Scoot

Canuck,
I will be up there for Fish Winnipeg but I will be unable to get over to Lockport for another show. The wife is still on vacation and won't get the pictures in until Monday. I'm glad the pics got there. I'll have to send you the rest some day.

Yes Brad I got them and they look great. I was just curious if Lisa took them to work. Too bad you don't have a way to post them on this bb. Sure hope U will be able to make it up on the 15th June for a show and Fish Winnipeg. Had a Grandfather, son and grandson (11yrs) out today, the end was once in a life time thing. All three hooked up at about the same time and it was Chinese fire drill as we were in the fast current. They were 34", 35" and a 37" fatty. I have them for 2 more days if their arms don't wear out.

Canuck,
Didn't you get my ? I sent you some of the pics we took. The wife has all of them printed and is putting together albums for the coffee table so she can show everyone that comes over that she is now the CAT QUEEN.
I have bought some powerhandles. I decided not to update all of my reels and just replace two of them with 7000s.
Drop me an so I can make sure I have the right address.

So Brad how did the pictures turn out? Did Lisa get to show her boss what real kitties look like. I am real sorry that I cost you money on Sunday, now that you have to put power handles on your Abu reels. I am sure if anybody trys them they will find as you and Lisa did. They really make reeling in those kitties alot easier.
The kitties taught me a lesson this week as well. On Sunday as U know they were behind the Pelican rock, well they were still there on Monday as a friend really did good there too but on Tuesday we started off there at 8AM and picked up only 3 then they went dead. We had to move and move we did. We finally found them very close to shore in the current. A storm fronts moved in on Tuesday and the kitties changed their pattern. It sure proved to me that they may be there one day but gone the next and YOU have to change with them as well.

In a nutshell, the Red's fishing like mad! It's runing approximately 7 feet above normal and it's fast, but we're concentrating all efforts tight to shore! This is where it's at. This pattern will remain in effect as long as the flows remain as they are. No doubt high water conditions are to the cats avantage and therefore they take full advantage of it!
