What are the boat ramps like now in the GF and East GF area as of today?

Will they be a problem come this Sunday if the river falls even more?

If you have any new reports on the condition of the ramps please post or e-mail it to me.

Thanks all!

Ed

I thought I should submit a report:

the fishing on the red river is excellent especially in the evening, the river is quite low at this point in time

It's an excellent time to get out onto the river and look for the those deadheads that tend to do damage to the boats in the summertime.

If you are launching from the north ramp in grand forks, please be aware of the water is only about a foot deep at the first bend going north.

I've been fishing up by the dam,the fish seem to be stacked up there. I caught a nice walleye on Sunday.

Please come on down to our red river fishing seminar on Thursday evening at 6:30. August 14th.

Canuck, We had a great time. We were on the river on Friday at 6pm. It was slow untill the sunset, but when midnight hit did the cats ever turn on. You were right about the frogs. We just went to Selkirk park to catch them, slim pickin's though, the whole marsh there is dried up, but we scrounged up enough with some effort. Thanks for the push in the right direction!!!!!!!

Well that's great!

I'm sure that they had a great time.

Glad you like the anchor and the picture. We sure had a great time in Winnipeg Fishing with you.

The water is quite low here, also. Skag hit bottom on the first bend on Saturday so stayed by the dam. Fishing is great in the evening I hear. With midnight being the hot bite.

Good luck!

Scott: look out you are going to get the raz. The two Brads I believe had a good time with Brad getting his trip best on Sunday afternoon. It was a little kitty, 37 3/4" and then a 36". Frogs were the bait of choice and this was in the middle of the hot day.

The kitties are really hitting the frogs right now with suckers the next choice. The flow is down but enough for the kitties. Don't let the hot days discourage anybody from trying the kitties.

ps: Thanks for the anchor and the framed picture that U Boys won is VERY much appreciated. I owe U all a greenback trip.

Jason of the Peg: I personally would fish like U said away from the main current during the nite fish. That area on the west side between the launch and the dam is always good. Also I would try the area about between the first set of wires and the floodway. Good Luck. ps: I have found the kitties seeming to be turning to frogs as their preference of bait.

Will be hittin Lockport this weekend. Plan on only going out in the late evening and late into the night. In the past we have generally stayed up by Selkirk when it gets dark. The cats are great there at night, would it be more productive to plant ourselves up by the damn in the dark?

We generally stay out of the heavy current by the Locks, and stick to the calmer area on the west side. Any advise on night fishing for a few us? Thanks! Jason

There was a 30lb catfish caught and released north of Oslo today. The same group of fisherman caught and released 5 over 20lbs yesterday. Fishing has been the best I have ever seen it.

Scott: There are lots of goldeyes up the dam, should only take U 15 min to get your 10 but I personally found the kitties seem like Stu is saying are turning to frogs. Sugguest U picked up a couple doz before coming up as there are NONE in the floodway but lots in a few other locations close by but I think U would be wise to bring some.

Good Luck and we may see U on land as I have a wedding on Sat. Give me a shout on my if U need other areas for frogs.

Stu,

We'll be up this coming Friday. I mentioned before we'd be bringing our clubs along, but I'm not sure we'll be able to get out and use them (quick trip this year). If we do play, though, I'll be giving you a hollar to see if you want to join in. Scoot

Hey Ed,

I see by your latest post that they're on the feed........that's great to hear! I tell you what catching cats closing in on 20 #'s is awesome no matter where they're coming from! Things remain the same here, loads of cats both at the dam and down river as well. Frogs are starting to produce well and fresh goldeye is also still in demand. This season literally flying by us, before you know the fall walleye run will be hear. I've got high expectations for this years run mainly because were due for a strong showing. The last couple of years has been poor by the rivers standards so maybe she'll get back on track....time will tell.

The Kitty's are on the chew here on the Central Red, the whole Red River really. I had a client out yesterday and he C&R 7 cats that alone totaled 137 pounds.

Friday we did just about as well, a few over 17# and a 19# with an assortment of Bambie Kitty's. We keep 5 channel cats 19-22" for the table, the rest go back to get bigger and meaner.

The weather is sweet, the company is good, and the fishing is great, what else could a guy ask for?

We just got back from fishing at lockport Stu Mckay's cats on the red, and the fishing was incredible. We caught so many fish that we lost track, and the size of the fish were all huge. The largest was 25.9pounds 38 inches, and the majority of the fish were around that 20# mark. We did some night fishing and it was awsome, one hole produced 14 fish that were 20# or better never have I caught big fish like that before. The fish were biting really good at the locks you'd look over at a boat with four people in it and all four people would have fish on. can't wait to get back up there.

Went out for a few hours last night. Got a good bite right before/just after dark on the edge of the channel. Ended up with 8 cats from 4 lbs to 13 lbs, one 4 lb sheepshead and 3 lost fish. Saw a nice 15-18 lb cat taken just down river. As a newbie to the area I am amazed at the rate the river keeps dropping. Makes me afraid to see at what rate it rises.

The bite is still on....hope it holds for you tournament guys through next weekend!

Good Luck! JJ
