Fished DL yesterday (12-28) and it was a real blustery day with the wind and then the snow coming down. A large group of us guys starting fishing by Skadskem's bay and didn't even get a bite nor see anything on the camera. Ice was anywhere from 12-16 inches thick with a lot of people driving off and on here. Moved over to by the casino for the walleye bite and we managed to get about 5 walleyes between 7 guys. It was a tough day on the ice but better than watching the Vikes blow it (again). Ice should be ready for travel by vehicle anywhere if we get some nice cold cold weather which is suppose to be coming.

Fishing was good this past weekend. Did well at Camp Grafton on Saturday in 21' and on South Black Tiger on Sunday in 23'. Minnows were the only thing I could get a bite on - best lures were forage minnow jigs, genz bugs (both glow with chartreuse) and a plain hook and minnow. I was driving everywhere - drove from the Black Tiger Bay boat landing all the way to South Black Tiger on the ice.

Perch are on the bite. I have fished by Camp Grafton with good success and lots of other anglers are too. We did real well in Black Tiger Bay the beginning of the week. Skadsens produced some real nice size perch. Walleyes are being caught on the Minnewaukan Flats and very few anglers out there. I haven't been to the north end of six mile bay yet but have heard good reports for walleye and pike. The ice is about 12 inches thick in the bays but I have not ventured out onto any of the main bays to check the depth of the ice yet. A lot of one pound perch are being caught with a few pushing the 2 lb range. We started ice fishing the day after thanksgiving and it has been generally real good with a few poor days mixed in. They call them fronts.

If you are planning a trip and need some help give me a holler and I'll do what I can.

I hear they're out now. Has anyone been out on Black Tiger? Are you going on by the old Black Tiger bait shop or over by Bill's East Bay campground, or at the very south end (where you head left down that gravel road by Bill's bait shop)? Anyone had an ATV out yet, or just by foot? Might give it a try this weekend.

We have had some damn cold weather here, Below zero one morning and 5 to 10 degrees each morn. there is reports of 7 inches of ice in small lakes like Pelican north of Minnewaukan. I will check it soon and post a report. Six Mile Bay at the bridge was still open and I see steam from the deep water areas so I assume open there too. Looking good for December 1st drive out.

Fished the the 57 Bridge last thursday (10-23) Used a slip sinker, snell with a red hook and minnow--reeled in close to 30 walleyes, most about 10 inches, lost a 4 or 5 lber at the boat--kept 5 between 12 and 15 inches for a meal. Caught another 15 or so white bass, biggest was almost 4 lbs. One 13 inch perch. Kept busy between 11 am and 4:30 pm but no size. lots of fun

Fishing as been slow for a few days now. Some people have been doing well though. Creel Bay has been good for smaller walleye in and around the tree line. Pike are doing well outside of the trees. White bass have been good in Wolfords Bay. East Bay has slowed down. I am not hearing as much reports about Minnewaukan Flats this year. Pelican Lake was doing very well earlier in the year but has slowed down now. We have seen many people go to Six Mile Bay but the fishing has been slow. There is a public fish cleaning station at Lakewood Boat Ramp witch is located on the east side of Creel Bay. There is also one in Minnewaukan on the west side of the Minnewaukan Flats. The Spirt Lake Casino has a public fish cleaning station as well. Wooland Resort has a very nice cleaning station that is air conditioned and heated (depending on the time of year). I work at Wooland Resort. We have much to offer.

Genie,

I fished Devils Lake in June. We stayed at a very nice Resort on Crel Bay called Woodlands. They have boats (17 foot fishing boats with 40 horse tillers) and cabin's for rent. Check out their web site. Just go to Devils Lake, ND and Woodland Resort will come up along with others. Good luck.

Fished this past week Tuesday-Thursday launching from Grahams Island. Generally slow and most walleyes were small.

Rumors of good fish taken in East bay did not pan out for us.

Some anglers reported success fishing in the evening off of the timber in about 15 ft. They were using leeches on stand up jigs fished slightly off of bottom not jigging or using twisters, just leeches hung over the side of the boat. They left with their limit, no trophies, but good action.

To clarify Big Tuna's report:

Team Cabela's boat admittedly caught a limit, but mostly smallish walleys that appeared to be the ones that were released from the Team Lund boat.

While the Lund boys boated only 16 nice fish, 4 shy of a limit, the ones they caught seemed to be far superior to the ones being landed by the Crestliner.

Also, if you see the Cabela's team in Cap'n Nelson's boat, be advised, they won't share their beer even with a guy who drove 1000 miles to mooch beer and fishing tackle off of his pals. Don't even bother asking. As for "Three Can" Jynx, his boat has a strange urine smell near the steering console.

In all, I'd say it was among the finest Devil's Lake outings of all. Good fishing, good friends, good beer (for a little while) and perfect weather.

Spent Sunday in the Flats. The wind was just vicious the first part of the day and then just died. We ended up catching a fair amount of eyes and a few pike. Most came on live bait (leeches preferred) and a few on cranks. because of the wind we had to be pretty selective of where we went.

Fished DL on Sat., two groups(those who caught fish-ours aka team Cabella's and those who were out for a boat ride-their's aka team Lund). Started at the 20 bridge jigging, one slimmer for the Lund Team. Went to East Bay drifted along Wolf Point area with the other 15 boats in 24 feet with spinners. Our boat-the ones catching the fish had best success with crawlers, a few with leeches/jigs. We limited on walleyes-mostly pounders-cept for Granpapa Bruce who boated the pound and half to two pounders. All and all Skip Nelson was successful in getting his people on the fish. Visited with some fishermen from Iowa at the cleaning station, shared some stories, seemed like nice people. This team Cabella"s vs team Lund outing seems to clear-up the mystery of what powers the "Jinx" actually has and how they play on fishing success. Sars!

My brother-in-law and I fished Devils Lake June 12th through the 19th we camped at Woodlands. It was great we caught our limit of walleye everyday. Most of them were between 16 and 26 inches long. We fished in Crel Bay and Six Mile Bay. We used leaches and night crawlers. I caught the largest on dare devils late afternoon. Buy a map and the larger fish were in the trees. We also caught some nice Northern's the largest 36 inches. The people at Woodlands were very helpfully. Good Luck.

Fishermen-

Didn't catch barely anything at all. Only a few really small walleye and a white bass. We didn't have a boat so we were off shore the whole time. By the bridge by the casino on the west side got snagged ALL the time. We had to cut our line about 6 times in one night. Anyways nobody anywhere seemed to catch anything. ON our last day of fishing we saw people with boats fishing off shore. Fishing wasn't good but still had a good time.

Jeff, Dan...

If your having problems at Devils, the first thing you want to do is get some sort of lake map, cheesy or the 4.00 one is fine. Look at the way the wind is blowing and has been blowing the past few days. Bait fish will be in the wind blown areas and the walleyes wont be far behind. Morning and night the fish are shallow. Heres my method and it works just about anywhere on the lake. Early morning, shallow where rock and timber meet from a recently wind blown shore, look in the water and make sure bait fish are present. If you dont get a fish from a hook and a leach on any sort of rig then move and try again. Mid morning, work your way deeper. As the sun gets hotter the fish back off into the 10-20ft water. If you were on fish in early morning look at your contour map and you will find the most likely gathering point for fish trying to escape the heat. This same pattern follows for the evening bite only in reverse. Although if your after trophy fish...deep is the only way....very deep. good luck.

We talked to ALOT ofpeople who had our success,VERY few walleyes.Except for a couple who gottem before dark on bobbers.I just wish my pardners would have the patience to locate fish..then fish, haha. We couldnt find camping anywhere because of a 2day contest, and then the 4day WalMart RCL guys were comingto prefish 3-4days early. Except for the pickups starter going out-it was fun.So I'll go back in a couple weeks-AFTER calling campgrounds!

Dale....If you're camping,I don't suggest July 5+6.The campgrounds are usually pretty full.Lots of motels tho. I'm 90 miles away, but I get there a few times each summer. This coming weekend will be the first.I prefer Minnewauken Bay,6-Mile Bay around Grahams Island statepark.Casting crankbaits along shores work.I have alot of luck with floatingjigs(greens, blue, and a touch of orange). Also, spinners or bobbers catch alot of walleye and northern.Theres a Casino on the SE corner of the main bay.So try your favorite system and good luck!
