Fished Buffalo for a little while today, and not much happening...Didn't even mark a lot of fish on the Vexilar's...Only managed one perch there. WEnt to Silver lake by Rutland and didn't mark a fish or see one caught, so one to Dead Colt Creek by Lisbon....Was there for about 4 hours and only managed to catch 2 perch and one bass. Other people we were fishing with caught a few "gills" but other than that very SLOW!!!! Marked many fish, but getting them to bite was the trick...They din't want to take anything that we threw at them...Heading to Devils Lake next weekend, looking for perch and EYes....Any info would be great....WEll good luck to everyone...

North Golden Lake

Well since I visited three lakes today, this report will be on all three lakes!

Started at Lake Laretta, nothing. Didn't mark any fish. In fact it seemed as though the entire lake was nearly empty for this time of year. Even the darkhouses were empty...

Decided to travel to Stump Lake, as I arrived, there were three cars/trucks leaving, (almost half the 'population'), the first vehicle claimed that the perch had moved and there were none to be found....

Onto another lake.

Now, when you are this close to Devils Lake, the temptation is to travel the last few miles to go to this lake, but alas...I decided to travel east and south to the famous north Golden lake.

Drilled 4 holes, barely put the line in the water before I had a perch. Waited about an Hour before the next hit..it was a northern. I had 2 lb. test line, without a leader, and a tiny hook. but I fought that northern for a good long time. I lost him below the hole. I didn't realize he was that close. The knot for my slipbobber had slid down the line, and I thought the know was the neutral zone, so to speak. I never did get bitten off. Just lost him at the bottom of the hole. Because Golden lake is so clear, I was able to estimate the length of about 24-26".

I had a blast reeeling in that northern, but to bad I lost him. waited about another hour for perch to come in...very sporadic.

At almost exactly sundown, they hit with a vengance. Only one line was necessary.

I had a bit of a problem getting off the lake....I had left my lights on, drained battery...dead battery. no jumper cables!

A couple of guys helped jump start my vehicle...and made sure a couple of 'chevy helping ford' jokes went with it..

I appreciated the help, and through it all, Golden Lake was the winner in fish, fun and North Dakota human kindness.

Not sure of Thompson "coulee", but it might also be what i call the Thompson dike...When i tried to find it everyone gave me such complicated directions, so here is the way i use to find it. I-29 to Thompson, take 15 W. Go to 18th St (it runs N and S). Go North for exactly three miles, look to your left. You should be seeing a dirt road that looks like it runs through the middle of a farm. Take that road (W) and you should see the dike appear within a mile. Hope these help you out...

To outdrznd, I'm sorry if I upset you with my comment. I don't want this to get into a slam site. I was just wondering where the area was because if you didn't notice the address I'm in the Air Force and don't exactly have all the time in the world to scope out all the "hot" spots these days. I use this site and fishing buddy to try to get a spot close to home where I can get out and catch a few fish once or twice a month. Don't worry about your "honeyhole", its too far for me to drive at this time. Wayne

Well, the crew completed the 3rd Annual MLK Ice-Fishing Extravaganza at the Thompson Coulee on Saturday. Following is a summary of the awards from this contest:

Largest Northern - Ev "There are some dubious circumstances surrounding this year's catch" N. Note, this is the third year Ev has taken home the largest Northern.

Largest Perch - Bernie "I only caught one, but it was a winner" G. It should also be noted that Bernie set the new land-speed record for an ice house. However, the record may be determined to be wind aided.

Smallest Perch - Dan "I've got this small fish fishin' down to a science" K.

Return From The Dead Award (Lazarus Award) - Big "Can I mix all this in the same cup" Tuna.

Nearly Lost the Garage Due to a Grease Fire While Frying Perch Award - Jeff "Are the rafters scorched?" S.

The Jinx Award - Matt "Even though I caught lots, I'll still keep the title" S.

The Winning Fish That Got Away Award - Waxie, "Is this how the bail opens?" A.

The Broken Kidney Award - Brucie "Where in the heck is this place?" S.

In all, a good time was had by those in attendance.

Danimal

Wayne....just for "you", if you know what I mean??!! It is about 10 miles Southwest of VC. GET a detailed map of ND and start checking these smaller bodies of water and research the ND game & fish stocking lists.I feel when you have spent your time checking these small ponds/lakes and have had success, why should you give your findings to everyone for their benefit??I was reporting my luck for the day, that is all.Hope you enjoy, as I will now be in search of another....do some research, maybe you will be the lucky one next time.

Sorry, Scott.....

wanye I agree with you but since fishing is sometimes a catching/fishing game, outdorz is correct also. i won't give away my honey hole, but i'l tell others about success when their is no other reprots of good fishing in the state. Somtimes it's just fun to brag. And thats ok. I dont think the owner of this site cares to much weather or not exact details are always given. in my opinon your both right.

I thought the purpose of the fishing report was to let others know WHERE the bite was, not how many or how big fish the fish were that others were catching. Where ever the "honeyhole" is locateed is great, and I'm glad you found it, but if you don't what to share it's location please don't post your results.

Fished a little "honey hole" today and brought home 8 NICE Perch. We set our minds to NOT keeping any under a pound today to preserve the "honey hole".Fished in 14 feet but fish were actually suspended between 8 and 10 feet.Put back 11 others to grow a little more.Best action was between 2pm and 3:30pm.We fished from 12:30pm until 6:00pm or so. Ones we kept weighed in right at a pound or a little over.Noticed a few more others starting to fish here....word must be travelling at a snails pace....Did notice a MN license plate on the ice today though on a new Yukon!!No recreational vehicles RACING around, so it was nice and quiet.

Didn't see or hear alot of signs of others doing much either. 17" of ice. Heard a second hand report of a guy catching a 23 pound Northern on North Golden Lake on Thursday.

I am trying to find out if there are any lakes in Southeast North Dakota that have crappies or walleyes in them. I know some have had luck on Jamestown res, pipestem and Ashtabula but when your pulling a loaded portable....the fewer miles you need to walk the better it is!!!Any ideas or general locations would be appreciated for this 12 year old boy.By the way, I'm using my dad's address so that he can read any reports and take me.Thank you!!

The ice was about 12" thick and with a little cold should be safe for some time.

Fished South Golden on Sun., from about 9:30 AM til about 1:30. Marked some fish, caught a few in 15 feet of water, ice was about 14 inches. Those who are driving around should watch out for tip ups and gear as they go "trolling" for a place to fish. We used waxes and minnows and Gentz worms. All and all not too bad but not fast and furious. I think maybe the "Jinx" brought some of his powers with him and slowed down the bite for the party of Big Tuna and Ev "shoot it got off". Maybe next time

Fished South Golden on Friday the 4th from about 9:30 til 2:30. Caught 45 perch in 15 ft of water on minnows, steady bite from about 10:30 until 12:30. Cooled off slightly until 1:45 and then picked up again. I kept 12 nice "keeper" perch and probably could have kept a few more had I not gotten choosy. Overall was a very fun day on the ice. Ice was 14 in. thick and there were many trucks on the ice. The fellas from GFC would have had a good time if they would have been there, college life is great! The Jinx did not live up to his ill-effects today. Good Fishing.

I am in need of information from Alkali Lake near Cayuga, Buffalo Lake near Rutland and last but not least....Dry/Goose Lake near Ashley. Any reports/info would help in making this a GREAT father/son fishing trip!! Thanks...
